City States brings together two cities encountered in the real world and transformed through the imagination. Inspired by the atmosphere, architecture and emotional character of London and New York, the series explores how familiar places can become something more dreamlike, intense and uncertain. Through heightened colour, distortion and simplified forms, the cities shift between reality and imagination, becoming emotional landscapes rather than literal representations of place. These works explore memory, atmosphere and the sense of being within a city, where architecture, movement and colour combine to create something felt as much as seen.
